Apparently I must look really old. As you may remember, I teach junior high. And I just recently turned 31. So today a mother comes it to talk to me about her son's grade. As we're talking, my computer screen saver comes on. Of course my screen saver is pictures of Camden so I can see his cute face all day long. The mother looks at the screen saver and then says to me, "Is that your grandson?"
What the freak? Do I really look that old? I think I need to start saving for some plastic surgery so I don't look so ancient!

How incredibly rude!! You don't even look close to Grandma-age. Not! Even! Close! Don't even worry. So many moms have children so much later in life, these days, I always err on the side of caution and ask about the "children" I may suspect are grandchildren. If nothing else, the grandma would be flattered to think someone thought she was young enough to have a 2 year old. But doooode...rude.
I truly hope you came up with something snarky to say back to her.
How rude!
What a rude lady! I'm sorry that you had to hear that. I don't think you look old at all!
You should have said calmly (if possible), "No, that's my son...isn't he adorable!?" Then secretly in the back of your mind thought of all of the nasty things you could say about her! Why do people say things like that!? I just don't get it! I hate insensitive people! (And NO, you don't look that old...I'd have to say you look like you could be in your 20's...)
How rude! That is just terrible. You don't look like a grandma at all.
OH my!
Oh my gosh!!! I don't think you look like a grandma at all... wow... What did you say to her? Maybe it was just a slip- honest mistake??
No, you don't look old enough to be a grandma.
I can't believe how some people can be so rude.

Was she wearing her glasses??? seriously, you don't look old!
What?! No, no you do NOT look old at all! What was she thinking? That's right up there with asking someone if they're pregnant. I'm sure she was very embarrassed...at least I hope so.
You absolutely do not look old. That woman is blind. Or from some dimension when people start having children when they're 10. Crazy.
She should meet my doctor.
rofl! Maybe, jsut maybe she isn't the sharpest tack. ;)
I would have made some funny comment about the miracles of science and how the drs couldn't believe i got pregnant at age 50!
Love your post. Made my afternoon.
Next time, tell her: “Yup. That’s my grandson. Isn’t he adorable? You should see my great grandson. He’s simply amazing!”

That woman is obviously not too observant because of course you don't look like a grandmother!!!
Mike's response is hilarious!
NO, you don't look old at all! That person obviously has the crooked outlook... Maybe her mom was 15 when she was conceived and she repeated history... who knows...
Ooooh. That strikes deep. I know you get a lot of dumb parents (the phone calls are bogus), but that was particularly thoughtless.
You made my evening !!!
I am a retired teacher of 20 years, my last 5 years in Middle School. I think this parent has definite issues...maybe with her vision. :) Cherrish every moment that you have with your students. Before you turn around, you will be retiring. Time slips away from us especially when we discover our calling !
