Diet frustration

I'm a bit frustrated today. I've done very well with sticking to my eating goals and counting points. I had Mark hide the scale last week because of my obsessive nature of stepping on it several times a day. It's been about 5 days since I weighed myself and I fully expected to see a loss today. So Mark pulled the scale out of the hiding place and guess how much I lost? Nothing! Three weeks of counting points and doing mostly well and only two pounds lost!

When I did Weight Watchers for the first time two years ago, I lost weight quickly. I lost about 8 pounds in the first three weeks. I expected that to happen again this time. And it's not! I'm not sure if it is because I had a baby, because I am now 30, or because my body just hates me. But I'm not giving up. I resolve to do even better this week. I need to do this. I need this weight off.

So, my blogtastic buddies, share your best weight loss secrets with me today.

How frustrating!!! If I had any secrets, I would share but as it is I am looking for myself. I think my chocolate habit isn't helping.

You can do this!!!

I can feel your pain. I had the huge initial loss, but now have kind of been stuck in a rut. I have been doing well with eating for the most part and exercising daily but the scale just seems to not want to move much.

Have you tried something called the Wendie Plan? For some people, it really helps shake things up. I don't know how to leave a link or if I even can here, but if you do a search it will come up. It is WW, but you vary your points from day to day and it kind of keeps the metabolism guessing a bit. For some people, it does not do a darn thing and others it really helps. I am thinking of doing it again to see if I can get the scale to budge a bit more.

Good luck. You can do this.:)

Just say no to soda! Pick one thing tp change that you feel is a challenge but not necessarily huge and just do it. Even Richard Simmons lost 13lbs after going off of diet soda years ago. (He told me, that is how I know!!)

Funny, I just told another blogger, I read the Maker's Diet (not a diet really, a lifestyle) and have used a number of things from it. My biggest help is walking. REALLY. I walk 20 min a day and have lost 30-32lbs since Dec 1st eating pretty much the same foods.

Be encouraged and do throw out your scale, use your clothes as a guide. It will help morale. hehe.

I find that drinking plenty of water and eating smaller meals more often works for me (rather than 3 large meals). And I agree with Emma; walking is fantastic and easy exercise and also, cut the soda, even the diet kind. Aspartame = BAD!

Best of luck!

I don't know any tips, but I do know that I usually show a 1-2 pound gain on mondays and by wednesday I'm back to normal or show a slight loss. Maybe you should weigh in later in the week?

((hugs))

Hang in there! I have found that not eating in the evening helps me a lot.

Laughing about your husband hiding the scale. I get on mine at least 5 times a day. When I get up, after I go to the bathroom, before I get in the shower (in my birthday suit, always the best reading), etc. etc. I never had a scale ever in my life until December and now the thing drives me nuts.

Are you drinking water like it's going out of style? Seriously? WW recommends 64 ounces, but the guideline I heard when I was losing big the first time was to take your weight and divide by two. Drink that # of ounces. For example 100 lbs? (ha!) Drink 50 ounces. I had to work my way up there so I wasn't running to the bathroom a million times a day, but your bladder adjusts, I promise! I can't say enough about water - quenches hunger, boosts metabolism - and that's just 2 of many, many benefits. :) KEEP IT UP!

I wish I knew some great thing to help. I do know that any changes to ourselves, whether physical or otherwise, usually take more time than we wanted. Hang in there!

Don't give up you can do this!!

I don't know any secrets either, other than for me I have to hide the treats and the scale.

Hang in there.

Hang in there! I don't have any good secrets either. (or I wouldn't be needing to lose so much weight) My dh has lost 50+ pounds since January. No working out, just eating well. It's insane and frustrating to see a man lose like 13 pounds a week just by not eating crap. Men lose weight so much easier than women...not fair! I say just keep up what you're doing. It will happen!

No advice, just sympathy. Hang in there!

You know, I hate scales. I really do. Are you exercising, too, because muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are exercising as well as dieting, then it is possible that you have lost weight, but are adding muscle and therefore weigh the same. Also, better to guage weight loss by how your clothes fit, not the scale. Did I mention I hate scales. ;-) Don't be discouraged. Just keep on doing what you're doing! ;-)

Rachel, don't despair!!! I did WW and LOVED it. I too had weeks of no loss and even sometimes gain. But, I learned that if you keep pushing through it, one week you might have a big loss!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Another question, Are you using your flex points? If so, try not using them for a week.

Also, the thing that I had the hardest time with was keeping my eating within the diet recommendations. Like 5 veggies, 2 oils, etc. Are you doing that? Try that for a week also . . . it might help.

These are the things that my leader use to always say to me. I hope that they help. Good luck!!

There are so many of us that have these issues, but I think at least for myself I feel I'm the only one. I'm the fat one amoung my skinny friends and I'm tired of it! I see pictures and I look worse than I think I do. I've heard food journals work, to kind of keep you accountable and realize what you are eating, I'm trying it and trying to be honest with it. Like many things in my life I like to cover it up and pretend it doesn't exist, so sometimes I even don't write things down in the journal, how bad is that? I've started trying to cut down on my portions, which is leaving me hungry. The hubby and I are on diets, me to loose weight and him to gain, so it's hard to see him eat like a pig and for me to deprive myself, when i LOVE food. Even my toddler I need to fatten up, he has his dad's motabalism, so it's hard when every one else is eating differently and needs to and you shouldn't partake. I've never owned a scale but recently got one, I figured if I wanted to be serious about this I needed to know the details, like how much I really weighed and to keep track. Also on good days when I remember I try to drink at least 64 oz. of water. If I don't do a lot of it all at once I don't get it done. I usually try to drink 32 oz. in the morning and then 32 oz. again later in the day and whenever else I'm thirsty or with a meal. Good luck with things. I feel your frustration.

I also forgot one thing, while writing my novel, is find healthy foods you like. I have a recipe for granola, which I love. It makes about 10 cups, depending on how much stuff you put in and there is only 1 cup of brown sugar. Everything else in there is pretty good for you, so I don't worry about the calories. Also another thing I've heard that I'm still working on, is don't eat your kids left-overs.

Good for you - great attitude. Do not give up, your body will respond!

When I want to lose weight, I eat 3 healthy, filling meals a day, drink lots of water, and I allow myself one sweet treat a week. This treat gives me something to look forward to and I don't feel like I'm totally deprived of the food I REALLy like. When I have cravings for sweets or food that won't help in my weight loss, I pop a piece of gum in my mouth.
Hang in there! I'm glad you're not giving up.
